melody stem outdoor classroom

As part of a new comprehensive outdoor educational space for Melody STEM Academy in the Garfield Park neighborhood, the custom planter bench was designed and installed under a strict $1,000 budget in one week with a grant from Guerilla Green from Architecture for Humanity. Additional components of the installation included a mural by Green Star Movement, garden and seating area by The Kitchen Community. The transformation of the bare outdoor space was part of a larger community redevelopment initiative to merge two closed public schools together on a new campus with a new cirriculum. "As we transition from STEM to STEAM, we want the A to stand for arts, agriculture and architecture, which can been seen here in this courtyard".
